A look back at the iconic Karl Lagerfeld and his amazing designs.
As we all know, the Met Gala is approaching and this year’s theme is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’. Lagerfeld has been a prominent figure in the fashion industry. Even after his passing, we still see a big influence of his creativity in the scene. Vogue US even released an issue where different designers interpreted his art.
Lagerfeld was born in Hamburg, Germany. He grew up in a Christian household with his parents and a half-sister named Martha. At an early age, Karl showed a big interest in design and often cut out pictures in fashion magazines. At the young age of 14, Lagerfeld decided to move to Paris where he met Yves Saint Laurent at a design competition and became close friends.
He started his career at Pierre Balmain as a junior assistance and later on as an apprentice. Later on, he followed in the footsteps of a creative director; designing for Chloe, Fendi, and other houses. Lagerfeld even introduced the miniskirt to the Parisian fashion scene.
Lagerfeld began slowing down as he advanced into his mid-80s. He sparked concern by not appearing at the end of his Chanel shows in Paris in early 2019. Days later, on February 19, 2019, it was announced that the legendary designer had passed away.
His designs and collection still remain timeless even though he is not with us anymore. A look back at our favourite collection of the Iconic Mr. Lagerfeld.
